Nava returns to Red Sox lineup
Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) – The Boston Red Sox activated outfielder/first baseman Daniel Nava from the paternity leave list prior to Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
Nava, who had missed all of Boston’s just-completed three-game series in Houston to attend the birth of his daughter, will bat seventh and play first base when the Red Sox begin a four-game set with the Royals on Thursday.
The 30-year-old switch-hitter is batting .282 with 10 home runs and 53 RBI in 96 games this season.
In a corresponding roster move, the Red Sox optioned pitcher Steven Wright to Triple-A Pawtucket. The knuckleballer lasted just one inning in Tuesday’s start against the Astros, permitting three runs while walking a pair of batters.
