National Hockey League Game Capsules
Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) – Daniel Sedin’s 300th career NHL goal highlighted a second-period barrage that propelled the visiting Vancouver Canucks past the Ottawa Senators, 5-2. The Canucks had found scoring to be a difficult task of late, but they pumped home four in the second, including three in a 3:35 span. Sedin, David Booth, Jason Garrison and Mike Santorelli each had a goal and one assist for Vancouver, which had totaled two goals or less in seven of its previous eight games. Not surprisingly, the Canucks posted only one win during that stretch. Roberto Luongo made 37 saves in Vancouver’s sixth straight win over the Senators. Craig Anderson surrendered the first four Canucks goals on 15 shots before being replaced by Robin Lehner in the decisive stanza. The Senators have dropped six of nine.
Final Score: Edmonton 3, Nashville 0
Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) – Fifty-one seconds. That’s the time separating goals by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall in the second period, and it proved to be the difference in the Edmonton Oilers’ 3-0 win over the Nashville Predators on Thanksgiving night. Ilya Bryzgalov, making his first start as a member of the Oilers, turned away all 33 Nashville shots to record his 31st career shutout. Jordan Eberle added an empty-net goal for the Oilers, who have won four of their last five games. Nashville’s Marek Mazanec stopped 25 shots in defeat. The Predators were coming off consecutive wins.
