Mutuel field and American Pharoah favored in Derby Future Wager
Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) – The mutuel field and champion American Pharoah closed as the top two favorites in Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
The pool began Friday at noon and closed 6 p.m. ET Sunday. There were 23 individual 3-year-olds along with the mutuel field of “all others.”
The mutuel field finished as the 4-1 overall favorite with American Pharoah the 8-1 second choice and top single 3-year-old. The mutuel field opened at 3-1 while American Pharoah was 8-1 in the morning line.
Dortmund, winner of the Robert B. Lewis Stakes, closed as the 9-1 third pick after opening at 8-1 along with American Pharoah.
Wagering was suspended on The Great War after trainer Wesley Ward notified Churchill Downs that the 3-year-old is no longer going to the Kentucky Derby. The Great War finished 10th and last in Saturday’s John Battaglia Memorial at Turfway Park as the 3-10 favorite.
Pool 4, the final chance for advance wagering, will be Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29. The 141st Run for the Roses will go off on Saturday, May 2.
