Moonshine Mullin recovered from injury, returns to training

Hot Springs, AR (SportsNetwork.com) – Stephen Foster Handicap winner Moonshine Mullin has returned to training after suffering an injury during the summer.

Moonshine Mullin, trained by Randy Morse, has been galloping and will return to the races at Oaklawn Park.

“You never know, even at this point,” Morse said. “But, I feel very good about the way he’s coming back.”

The 6-year-old won the Foster at Churchill Downs on June 14 defeating Will Take Charge for the second time and surpassing $1 million in career earnings. Moonshine Mullin won the Alysheba Stakes at Churchill on May 2 when Will Take Charge finished sixth.

A ligament tear was discovered right before he was to start in the West Virginia Governor’s Stakes on Aug. 2 at Mountaineer Park forcing Morse to scratch the horse.

“It was bittersweet,” Morse said. “It was a great ride, but, gosh, when he got hurt, it was like, ‘Wow.’ Who knows what could have happened. He’s just one of those horses, he got good. Believe me, he was really getting good before this happened.”

Owned by Randy Patterson, Moonshine Mullin won five of six starts in 2014 for $641,627 and has banked $1,014,361 overall with nine wins, four seconds and five thirds from 32 career starts.
