Montgomerie wins again on European Senior Tour
Moscow, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) – Coming off a 10-shot victory at last week’s Travis Perkins Masters, Colin Montgomerie fired a final-round, 7-under 65 on Sunday to win the Russian Open Golf Championship by three strokes.
Montgomerie, who now has four wins this season and five victories in total on the European Senior Tour, finished the week at 14-under-par 202 at Moscow Country Club.
In Montgomerie’s last five events on tour, he has come away with four victories and a runner-up finish at The Senior Open Championship.
It was another flawless round for Montgomerie on Sunday as he opened up with four straight birdies from No. 2 to quickly get to minus-4. Following a trio of pars from six, Montgomerie closed out his front nine with a birdie at No. 9.
Four more pars preceded a pair of birdies for Montgomerie on 14 and 15, and he closed things out with three more pars to end his first bogey-free round of the week.
Rick Gibson finished in sole possession of second place at 11-under 205 following a 5-under 67. Andrew Oldcorn and Barry Lane shot matching 68s and they were two of four players to finish tied for third at 10-under. They were joined there by Miguel Angel Martin (69) and Tim Thelen (71).
Philip Golding and Steen Tinning shot 67 and 69 respectively to finish tied for seventh at 8-under 208.
