MLB Spring Training Update
Spring training is always a great way to kick off the Major League Baseball season, and gives fans a chance to see how their favorite players are doing, as well as some brand new faces. Not to mention of course, all those thrilling exhibition games. So, who are the ones to watch this year?
Brandon Belt, 1st Baseman, San Francisco Giants
Those who watched Brandon Belt during last year’s spring training may be concerned that history is repeating itself — with a stellar performance in the beginning weeks, only for a lackluster one during regular season. But Belt is doing even better than he did last year, doubling his previous career highs, and minimizing strike-outs. He’s one to watch and when you do, this year you’ll likely be impressed with what you see.
Jackie Bradley Jr., Outfield, Boston Red Sox
Fans likely won’t see Bradley during the beginning of the season, but they should be sitting on the edge of their seats until they do. Bradley’s been tearing it up in the minors, and has and he’s carried that through to spring training this year. The Sox have Jacoby Ellsbury for now, but he’s likely to get traded or signed away during free agency; so Bradley would be a good player to step into his place.
Matt Harvey, Starting Pitcher, New York Mets
Matt Harvey has got a lot to prove this spring training, and so far he’s showing that he’s proving it. His strikeout rate is 12 in 9 innings; and although both earned runs hit against him were home runs, he’ll work through the learning curve and prove to be one of the greatest things to happen to the Mets this year. Harvey’s going to be looking to extend his 10-game starts that he saw last year with the club and if management is smart, they’ll let him.
Did we miss any? Who are your favorites so far from this year’s spring training in Major League Baseball?
