Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) – Jordan Parks registered a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds as the top-seeded NC Central Eagles coasted to a 91-43 victory over the ninth-seeded Coppin State Eagles in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at Scope Arena.

Anthony McDonald added 19 points for NC Central (25-6), which also received 12 points and six assists courtesy of Nimrod Hilliard. NC Central will advance to the semifinals to face the winner of the matchup between Howard and Delaware State.

Arnold Fripp paced Coppin State (8-23) with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor.

NC Central outscored Coppin State, 10-2, at the free-throw line and made good on 55.2 percent of its field goal tries in the opening stanza en route to a 44-22 halftime lead.

Coppin State fell into a deeper hole over the final 20 minutes of regulation as it was limited to 29.2 percent efficiency from the field and committed 14 turnovers.

Final Score: Norfolk State 68, South Carolina State 54

Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) – Jeff Short poured in 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor to help the No. 2 seeded Norfolk State Spartans defeat the seventh-seeded South Carolina State Bulldogs, 68-54, in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at Scope Arena.

D’Shon Taylor provided 16 points and seven boards for the Spartans (20-12). Jordan Butler paced Norfolk State on the glass with eight rebounds.

Edward Stephens led South Carolina State (11-22) with 14 points, but also committed five of the team’s 13 turnovers. Jalen White chipped in 11 points for the Bulldogs.

South Carolina State took a narrow, 31-30 lead into halftime after it converted 6-of-7 attempts from behind the 3-point line in the opening stanza. The Spartans sank only 2-of-9 tries at the free-throw line before the break.

Norfolk State shot 60 percent from the field and outscored the Bulldogs, 12-5, at the free-throw line to pull away after the intermission.

The Spartans will take on the winner of Thursday’s second round matchup between Maryland-Eastern Shore and Hampton.
