Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament Recaps
Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) – Adrien Coleman scored 28 points and Kevin Dukes added a season-high 22 to lead Bethune-Cookman to an 89-78 victory over Coppin State in a MEAC Tournament first-round clash.
Javoris Bryant also had a big day for the eighth-seeded Wildcats (13-19), who advance to a quarterfinal matchup against No. 1 seed Norfolk State on Wednesday, pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with 19 points.
Bethune-Cookman trailed 33-32 at the half, but shot 57.1 percent in outscoring the Eagles by a 57-45 margin in the second period.
Taariq Cephas finished with 27 points for ninth-seeded Coppin State (8-24), with Andre Armstrong netting 17 in the loss.

Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) – Lamont Middleton scored 12 points as the North Carolina A&T Aggies captured a 65-54 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers in the opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at Norfolk Scope Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the seventh-seeded Aggies (16-16) were Adrian Powell and Jean Louisme with 11 points apiece. With the victory the Aggies now move to the quarterfinals on Wednesday to do battle with second- seeded North Carolina Central.
The 10th-seeded Rattlers (8-23) were paced by Jamie Adams with a game-high 14 points, but shot just 4-of-12 from the floor and turned the ball over six times in the setback. Markee Teal and D’Andre Bullard tacked on 10 points apiece for the squad.
NC A&T opened the meeting on a 5-0 run and never fell behind, although the team led by just a single point at the break, 25-24. The Rattlers managed to remain close thanks to 50 percent shooting from the floor through the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half the Aggies began to pull away on the strength of 60.0 percent shooting from the field and 6-of-9 behind the 3-point line, en route to the double-digit triumph.
In addition to outscoring the Rattlers at the free-throw line by a 19-7 margin, NC A&T also forced 18 turnovers and traded those in for 27 points.

Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) – Albert Thomas scored 21 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the Delaware State Hornets stung the Howard Bison, 73-61, in the opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at Norfolk Scope Arena.
Marques Oliver produced a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the sixth-seeded Hornets (14-17), while Tahj Tate and Casey Walker responded with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The 11th-seeded Bison (7-24) were paced by Calvin Thompson who scored a game- high 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor, followed by Mike Phillips with 18 points and Anton Dickerson with 11 and nine boards in the setback.
Delaware State scored the first points of the night and never looked back, holding the Bison to a mere eight field goals through the first 20 minutes of action in order to claim a 32-20 advantage at the break.
In the second half the Hornets made good on an impressive 51.9 percent from the floor and led by as many as 19 with less than two minutes left before settling in with the 12-point triumph.
With the victory the Hornets, who held Howard to 5-of-16 shooting beyond the arc on the night, now move to the quarterfinals on Wednesday to do battle with third-seeded Hampton.
