Micromanage versus nine in Smarty Jones
Bensalem, PA (Sports Network) – Micromanage, third in the Haskell, heads a field of 10 3-year-olds for Labor Day’s running of the $350,000 Smarty Jones Stakes at Parx Racing. The mile and 70 yard event is a prep for the track’s Pennsylvania Derby on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Micromanage is listed at 7-2 in the morning-line and will start from post 5 with Joe Bravo again in the saddle.
The colt, owned by Mike Repole, was second in the Easy Goer Stakes at Belmont Park in June and won the Long Branch Stakes the following month at Monmouth Park.
He has won three of seven career starts and $276,200.
The 5-2 program favorite for Monday is trainer Mark Casse’s Uncaptured. Owned by John Oxley, the colt will be ridden by his regular jockey Miguel Mena from the far outside post.
Uncaptured, winner of seven of 12 lifetime starts, is coming off a win in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie on July 30. The stakes is the second jewel in Canada’s Triple Crown.
Earlier this year, he was second in the Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park before a 10th at Keeneland in the Blue Grass Stakes. The colt rebounded with a pair of seconds in the Wando and Matt Winn Stakes.
A son of Lion Heart, Uncaptured has banked $952,306.
