Mets send Niese to DL
Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – New York Mets pitcher Jonathon Niese was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of a strained left shoulder.
Niese exited after just one-third of an inning in Friday’s game against Texas after being hit in the back with a comebacker off the bat of Alex Rios. The lefty had already given up a homer and a single before leaving after only 12 pitches.
In 17 games this season, Niese owns a record of 5-4 with a team-best 2.96 ERA.
The Mets recalled pitcher Buddy Carlyle from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the roster spot. Carlyle appeared in two games for the Mets earlier this season and was 1-0 while not allowing a run in 4 1/3 innings.
