New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Miami Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez will replace the injured Jordan Zimmermann of the Washington Nationals on the National League All-Star roster.
Zimmermann suffered a biceps injury during his start Friday at Philadelphia, exiting after just 3 1/3 innings. He had been selected to his second All-Star Game by St. Louis manager Mike Matheny.
Alvarez will be a first-time All-Star. He also started Friday, taking the loss in a 7-1 setback against the New York Mets after allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings.
The 24-year-old right-hander has a record of 6-4 with a 2.63 ERA and three shutouts in 19 starts for the Marlins this season.
