Mariners activate Iwakuma
Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – The Seattle Mariners activated pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma from the 15-day disabled list to start Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros.
Iwakuma, who finished third in voting for last year’s American League Cy Young Award, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on March 29 with a torn extensor tendon in his right middle finger. He did not appear in a game this spring.
The 2013 All-Star selection went 14-6 with a 2.66 ERA in 33 starts last year.
To make room for Iwakuma on the roster, the Mariners optioned pitcher Lucas Luetge to Triple-A Tacoma. In three relief appearances with Seattle this season he has posted a 7.71 ERA.
