Make Time to See Matilda the Musical
Do you know the story of the little girl called Matilda? Whether you are familiar with the book by Roald Dahl, or you are familiar with the 1996 movie directed by and starring Danny DeVito, you know that it is a heartwarming story that’s part fantasy, part comedy, and all heart. Children love the story, and so do adults.
Matilda is the story of a remarkable little girl who is a misfit for the family she was born into. She’s an intellectual, a reader, and an all around smart child. The rest of the family is dull and dimwitted. She is moral and just, while her father and mother try to find ways to scheme and take the easy way through life. The story follows Matilda and the people she meets, including teachers who see what a great and special child she is. Without too many spoilers for those who do not know the story, Matilda does get the ending she deserves.
Of course, one of the things that make this version of the story so special is the music and songs. The songs and the performers are fantastic and highly professional. The songs are catchy and fitting, and they will be in your head long after the show ends.
It was just a few years ago that they decided to turn the story into a musical. The Royal Shakespeare Company decided they would turn Matilda into a musical in 2009, and it took nearly two years to complete all of the details and to make sure the show worked before it debuted at the Cambridge Theatre in the West End of London. It proved to be popular, and eventually came to the United States. It opened on Broadway in April of 2013.
The show is currently on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre, and it is still very popular. If you and the family are living in or near the city, or you plan to visit soon, make it a point to get tickets. Your kids will love this story of a spunky and precocious little girl who wins in the end. Make it a point to see Matilda: The Musical!
