Madonna Confirmed for Super Bowl XLVI

For the past several years, the gurus at the Super Bowl have wanted to make the halftime show a little more family-friendly, after seeing controversies emerge year after year (who’s forgotten about the Janet Jackson /Justin Timberlake incident?) Now though, they’ve broken from the past few years’ traditions and have lined up one of the most controversial artists of all time to perform — Madonna!

Yes, on February 5, 2012 at Lucas Oil Stadium, the Queen of Pop will be taking the stage. And even though she’s toned it down the past few years and has become quite more conservative, you have to know that Madge has a few tricks up her sleeve for this halftime show. Currently, we know that a team from Cirque du Soleil will join her, as well as a choreographer and multimedia artists from Moment Factory.

What’s not known is what songs Madonna will be performing. She has just released a new album, on which Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. join her for a few songs. Whether or not she’ll be bringing these artists along for the ride is anyone’s guess, but fans are hoping that they’ll get three for the price of one!

Do you think this is a good idea on the part of the Super Bowl committee? Is it better to bring in a younger, fresher artist rather than giving us old acts (such as The Who’s performance in 2010?) Or do you think an artist like Madonna is just too unpredictable an act to keep with the family theme the Bowl’s been striving for the past few years?
