Linsanity Moves to Houston

After just a couple of weeks debating whether Jeremy Lin would be playing for the New York Knicks or the Houston Rockets, it’s now been decided that Houston will be the ones to feel Lin-credible this year.

The proposed deal came from the Rockets just over a week ago; and the Knicks had until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday to decide whether or not they were going to match the three-year contract for $25 million that Houston was offering their point guard. It was a big decision. The Knicks wanted to keep Lin, and Lin wanted to stay with the Knicks. But New York would have to pay a whopping luxury tax to the tune of around $15 million just to do it; and Lin probably wouldn’t even be the starting point guard, as the Knicks have three bigger names already. It was mostly for the former reason that New York announced yesterday that they’re not going to match Houston’s offer.

After the announcement, the general manager for the Rockets, Daryl Morey, tweeted the following, “Welcome to Houston @JLin7. We plan to hang on this time. You will love #RedNation.”

Lin on the other hand, seemed a bit undecided about it. “Honestly, I preferred New York,” he said in a statement put out by the Rockets. “But my main goal in free agency was to go to a team that had plans for me and wanted me. I wanted to have fun playing basketball.”

Lin also posted two tweets to his Twitter saying, “Extremely excited and honored to be a Houston Rocket again!” while saying in a separate tweet afterwards, “Much love and thankfulness to the Knicks and New York for your support the past year. Easily the best year of my life.”
