Leafs to stick with Horachek for remainder of season
Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) – The Toronto Maple Leafs will be sticking with interim head coach Peter Horachek through the end of the current season before naming a new bench boss.
That’s the word from Leafs team president Brendan Shanahan at a Friday press conference, which addressed several issues at the midway point of the current campaign.
“Any time there is a coaching change there is an opportunity for players to look at themselves as well,” said Shanahan. “Every team has to deal with their own bits of adversity … We’re not the only team trying to find consistency.”
Horachek, who worked the final 66 games for the fired Kevin Dineen in Florida last year, began his Toronto tenure with a 6-2 home loss to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday. The Leafs fired Randy Carlyle on Tuesday despite a 21-16-3 record.
Shanahan said Horachek will be one of the candidates considered for the full- time position.
