Keeping Score with the New York Yankees

What has happened to the Yankees?  Beginning their season with their usual bang, the whopping, most famous team in the history of baseball, is beginning to lag in its performance.  They’re still at the lead of their division, but they have lost seven out of the ten last games.  After losing to the Red Sox, anxieties are running high over the upcoming games with the Baltimore Orioles.  Can they pull out of their slump? 

Adding to their woes, left handed pitcher and veteran, Andy Pettitte has not been recovering as rapidly as hoped from a fractured ankle after he was hit by Casey Kotchman during a June 27 start against the Seattle Mariners.  It’s expected he won’t be back in play until September first.  In his place, was Hiroki Kuroda, driving that ball over the plate like a bulldog that doesn’t know when to stop, but his nearly spotless pitching still wasn’t quite enough to stop the Red Sox from taking a one point lead in the final game, and three points overall. 

The Orioles are behind the Yankees 60 wins, 41 losses, with a 53/ 49 score, but the last 6-1 win against the Oakland Athletics have left them hot and ready to play ball.  Matt Wieters, who sat out the two previous games with a sore right biceps, is certainly ready.  After hitting a three run homer, he’s primed to take on the Yankees for all they’re worth.  Can Kuroda stop him?

There will be plenty of excitement as the two teams face off in this latest round of World Series Baseball.  The Yankees are in the lead, and they have a powerhouse of veteran players, but the Orioles are filled with determination.  With the last half of the season just under way, and with upcoming games against the Texas Rangers, who are evening up the score at 59/41, the Yankees can’t really afford to lose.  Will they be able to stay ahead?  It’s quickly coming to a showdown, with each game a struggle to remain at the top.  Don’t miss the drama and excitement as the Yankees face off with the Orioles to maintain their reputation as the team that just can’t be beat.
