Jays grab 1B Smoak off waivers
Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) – The Toronto Blue Jays claimed first baseman Justin Smoak off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
Smoak was viewed as a potential cornerstone player when the Mariners acquired the ballyhooed prospect in the Cliff Lee trade with the Texas Rangers in July 2010.
The switch-hitting Smoak, however, struggled during his four-plus seasons with Seattle, batting .226 with 66 home runs and 200 RBI in 496 games.
