Jacksonville, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without starting tight end Marcedes Lewis for the next 6-8 weeks due to a high ankle sprain, the team announced Monday.

Lewis, one of the Jaguars’ few veteran offensive weapons, suffered the injury on the first play of the second half in Sunday’s loss to Washington. Lewis accounted for Jacksonville’s only touchdown in the 41-10 drubbing with a 63- yard catch from Chad Henne in the first half.

Head coach Gus Bradley said Lewis will not be placed on the season-ending injured list at this time. The nine-year veteran had played at least 11 games every season coming into this one.

Henne, Bradley said on Monday, will remain the team’s starting quarterback despite two underwhelming games and rookie Blake Bortles waiting in the wings.

Bortles, the third overall pick in this year’s draft, watched Henne get sacked 10 times and complete just half of his 28 attempts against the Redskins.
