Oceanport, NJ (Sports Network) – Preakness runner-up Itsmyluckyday put in a workout on a rainy Friday morning at Monmouth Park.

Trained by Ed Plesa Jr., Itsmyluckyday worked five furlongs in 1:01 1/5 over a muddy track.

“I was going to work him tomorrow,” Plesa said, “but the track was probably going to be worse with all the rain. Then I’d have to wait till Sunday and there’s no guarantee what shape it would be in then. It wasn’t bad this morning, so I decided to go ahead and work him now.”

Itsmyluckyday, owned by Trilogy Stable and Laurie Plesa, finished just 1 3/4 lengths behind Oxbow in the Preakness on May 18. The colt was 15th in the Kentucky Derby as one of the favorites at 9-1 in the 19-horse field.

He opened the year with wins in the Gulfstream Park Derby and Holy Bull Stakes with a second to Orb in the Florida Derby. Orb followed with winning the Kentucky Derby.

With the 46th Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park a likely goal, Itsmyluckyday has earnings of $825,600 with five wins in 12 lifetime starts.
