It’s Week 1 of College Bowl Season!

We’ve spent the year watching, cheering, and making predictions. Now it’s week one of bowl season in college football, and teams are playing for all the money. There are only two this week, with the Gildan New Mexico Bowl and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl; but they’re both bound to be good ones!

Gildan New Mexico Bowl
Saturday, December 15, 1:00pm EST
Arizona Wildcats (7-5) vs. Nevada Wolf Pack (7-5)
This game will take place on Saturday at University Stadium in New Mexico, and what a great way to kick it all off! Both teams here have an outstanding offense with Arizona finishing seventh in total offense, and Nevada eleventh. But while they speed, throw, and make a real bid for the win, both teams will have to work on their defensive styles. Arizona gave up 34.4 points every game, while Nevada let teams score an average of 32.5 points per competition, showing that neither really excels in this area. The one advantage that Arizona has in this one? Their quarterback Matt Scott, who can throw like no one else on Nevada’s team.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

Toledo Rockets (9-3) vs. Utah State Aggies (10-2)
For the second game of the day on Saturday we’ll most likely see one that isn’t as high-scoring, but may be a bit more fun to watch. Utah State is often cited for their near-impeccable defense, which was ranked 15th in the league this year, and they’ll need to it going up against Toledo. The Rockets are quick on the ground and are known to hold their opponents to very few yards, as well as scores. But don’t count Utah State out just yet (or at all in fact.) Their offense, while not the powerhouse you see in other teams around the league, deserves a nod of recognition with 21 TDs on the ground, and 19 that flew through the air this year. That could be just enough to stop Toledo. Whatever happens, this one will be a great bowl to help start it all off, and it’ll be a close one too!
