Is Willow Smith’s New Song Appropriate for her Age?

Willow Smith has a new single out and it’s all about summer fun. The song, which is called “Summer Fling” is all about a summer love that while fairy-tale like, eventually comes to an end – or is at least about to, according to Willow. The song is upbeat and has a fun-loving video to go along with it, but some say it’s just inappropriate for her age. She is after all, only twelve years old.

The song’s lyrics do point to much more mature subject matters than you’d hope a girl of that age would know about. “It’s just a couple months but we do it anyway,” she sings, along with “good night kisses if the mood is right.” But what does a girl who hasn’t even become a teenager yet know about such intimate things? It seems she doesn’t, as the video is filled with actors who are clearly acting along with Willow – and who are also clearly much older than she.

Another thing that seems to have angered critics, along with the too-old-for-her lyrics, is the fake British accent she puts on during one of the song’s lines, “Thanks for the summer fling/It was nice.” Some wonder how the accent fits into the song at all, while others are calling it a Taylor Swift rip-off from when she opened the Grammys and used the same kind of accent.

So is Willow’s latest just too mature for her age? Listen to it here on YouTube and check out the video at the same time, and decide for yourself.
