Is the Next Boy Band Going in One Direction?

Pop music has been going the way of solo artists over the past several years with the likes of Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and Katy Perry. But now, there’s a new boy band in town, and they’re bringing teenyboppers back! That band is calling themselves One Direction, and from the looks of it, that’s the way all the girls are going to go.

The band made their American debut on NBC’s Today show on Monday morning. Girls lined the streets and clapped and cheered the way only girls can over a new boy band; and they’ll have the chance to do it again soon, too. On April 7, One Direction will also appear on Saturday Night Live on April 7. A huge step for a little boy band from Ireland.

Yes, the band has Irish roots (similar to another boy band from the U.K.) along with a very interesting story of how they met. All five of them signed up for the U.K. (and original) version of X Factor and individually, none of them got very far. Pooling their talents though, they teamed up as the boy band “One Direction” and competed yet again — this time they took third. That led to almost immediate stardom, as the band put out their first album, Up All Night, in November and have already slated a mini European tour for April.
