Oklahoma City, OK (SportsNetwork.com) – The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed guard Ish Smith to help a depleted roster.

The Thunder needed permission from the NBA to add Smith under a hardship exception because his signing will put the team over the 15-man roster maximum.

Smith can remain with the team until one of the Thunder’s long-term injured players is ready to return.

Oklahoma City is already without superstars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, while guard Reggie Jackson also recently returned from wrist and ankle injuries.

The Thunder on Tuesday finished a 100-88 loss at Toronto with just six available players after forward Perry Jones suffered a knee injury and guard Sebastian Telfair was ejected late in the contest.

Smith appeared in 70 games for Phoenix last season and averaged 3.7 points with 2.6 assists. The Wake Forest product has career averages of 2.9 points and 2.0 assists in 191 games with Houston, Memphis, Golden State, Orlando, Milwaukee and Phoenix.
