Indians release OF Francoeur

Goodyear, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) – The Cleveland Indians released former Gold Glove outfielder Jeff Francoeur on Saturday.

Francoeur, signed as a free agent to a minor league contract on Jan. 6, batted .286 with a home run in 13 spring training games for the Indians.

He hit .204 in 81 games for the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants last season.

The nine-year MLB veteran was cut loose by the Giants on Aug. 20 last season after hitting .194 in 22 games. He had been released by Kansas City in July.
