Toronto, ON (Sports Network) – Veteran jockey Patrick Husbands underwent surgery Tuesday after suffering injuries Monday at Woodbine.

Husbands, who turns 40 years old on Wednesday, suffered a fractured right tibia when his mount, A Tough Buck, collapsed just after the finish line following the fifth race. The 4-year-old gelding got up and was able to walk off the track.

A native of Barbados, Husbands will be away from the races for three to four months.

Husbands, a seven-time Sovereign Award winner as Canada’s top jockey, has earned more than $127 million in his career with 2,621 wins. This year he’s won 25 races in 164 starts for nearly $1.4 million.
