Hortal wins Challenge Tour event in Spain

Tarragona, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) – Antonio Hortal shot 3-under 68 on Sunday and won the Challenge de Catalunya by three strokes.

Hortal, who won for the first time on the European Challenge Tour, finished at 14-under-par 199 at Lumine Golf & Beach Club.

The Spaniard birdied the second, but gave that shot right back as he bogeyed the third. After seven consecutive pars, Hortal posted three birdies in the next five holes from the 11th to move to 14-under.

Hortal tripped to a bogey on the 17th, but he birdied the 18th for the third straight round to win by three.

Callum Shinkwin also closed with a 68 to take second place at minus-11. Andrew Johnston (67) and Connor Arendell (72) shared third at 9-under 204.

The event was shortened to 54 holes after Friday’s play was abandoned due to inclement weather.
