Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Goldencents posted a four-furlong workout Saturday at Santa Anita Park as the 4-year-old continues to prepare for his 2014 debut.

Trained by Doug O’Neill. Goldencents, with exercise rider Humberto Gomez, covered the half-mile in 47 3/5 seconds.

“He was absolutely cruising,” O’Neill said. “I couldn’t be happier. He’s back on his game and closer to his return, but there’s no rush. We’ll let him tell us when he’s ready. The clocker who gave him ‘breezing’ knew what he was looking at.”

Goldencents, partly owned by Rick Pitino, won the Dirt Mile last November at Santa Anita as the 7-2 second choice. Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, he defeated Golden Ticket by 2 3/4 lengths by setting the pace the entire distance.

The colt won the Sham Stakes and Santa Anita Derby before finishing 17th in the Kentucky Derby. He was fifth in the Preakness and then posted three straight second-place finishes in the Bing Crosby, Pat O’Brien and Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes.

In 12 career starts Goldencents has five wins and four seconds for $1.99 million.
