Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) – General a Rod, 11th in last week’s Kentucky Derby, will start in next Saturday’s 139th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course. Co-owner Starlight Racing posted the decision on its Twitter page.

“General a Rod, 11th in the #KyDerby, will return in the @PreaknessStakes, trainer Mike Maker said Friday; Javier Castellano has mount.”

Trained by Mike Maker, General a Rod was purchased by Starlight Racing and Skychai Racing just days before the Kentucky Derby from J. Armando Rodriguez for whom the colt is named.

General a Rod began 2014 by winning the Gulfstream Park Derby on New Year’s Day and followed with a second to Wildcat Red in the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream. The 3-year-old concluded his Kentucky Derby preps with a third in the Florida Derby to Constitution. The colt has earned $282,200 with two wins and two seconds in six starts.
