You probably have some fond memories of going to the circus when you were a youngster. You can relive some of those memories by taking a trip to the circus today. The Big Apple Circus, based in NYC is a great choice too! It opened in 1977 and has become quite the attraction. Since the circus started, they’ve been providing New Yorkers and tourists with great entertainment that’s different from many of the low budget circuses out there. The not-for-profit circus takes great care of their animals and they have veterinarians they can contact if needed.

While most of the shows take place right in NYC, they do have a touring group as well, so you might be lucky enough to find the circus coming to a town near you. The Big Apple Circus, as large as it is today, actually started with some rather humble beginnings. Paul Binder and Michael Christensen were jugglers who had a comedy and juggling act that they performed on the streets of Europe in 1974. Eventually, their act got them noticed, and they even started performing on stage with Cirque de Paris. They enjoyed this, and when they returned to the United States, they wanted to create something similar. They began to develop what would become the Big Apple Circus we all know and love today.

The show features clowns, animals, juggling, acrobats, and so much more. It is a huge part of NYC. They are always working on and developing new shows so every time you come and see the Big Top Circus, you get to see something a bit different. This is a circus with heart too. They have outreach programs so they can bring the joy of the circus and their beloved clowns to children’s groups and healthcare facilities.

Whether you live in or near the city, or you are heading to NYC for a vacation, the Big Apple Circus is a great place to visit for some fun. Go with your friends, your spouse, and your children. It’s a wonderful time for everyone. Get some tickets for the show and make it a part of a truly magical day!
