Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – The Miami Dolphins have suspended defensive lineman Derrick Shelby indefinitely after a weekend run-in with the law.

Shelby was arrested early Saturday morning at a Fort Lauderdale, Florida, nightclub and was charged with trespassing after warning and resisting arrest without violence.

“We were disappointed to learn about Derrick’s arrest,” said Dolphins coach Joe Philbin in a statement Monday. “Everyone in this organization is held to high standards of conduct and professionalism. Based on my conversations with Derrick and the information we have thus far, Derrick will be placed on indefinite club suspension. When we have completed all of the necessary diligence, we will make a final determination on his discipline.”

According to reports from the Miami Herald and South Florida Sun-Sentinel, police were called to a nightclub after Shelby was touching women without their permission and then refused to leave the establishment. After nightclub security called the police, Shelby refused to be taken into custody, forcing the officers to use a stun gun on Shelby three times.

Shelby, a three-year veteran, has appeared in four games this season with the Dolphins, recording six tackles and two sacks.

The Dolphins had their bye this past weekend and return to work this week in preparation for Sunday’s home game against Green Bay.
