Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Chris Withrow has been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right elbow, which will most likely require Tommy John surgery.

Withrow was examined by team doctor Neal ElAttrache on May 23 and he diagnosed a tear of the ulnar collateral ligament and recommended Tommy John surgery. Withrow, though, will seek a second opinion.

The 25-year-old Withrow, who last threw for LA on May 20 before being sent down to Triple-A Albuquerque, posted a 2.95 ERA with 28 strikeouts over 21 1/3 innings.
