Devils put Gionta on IR with broken hand
Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) – New Jersey Devils forward Stephen Gionta was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a broken hand.
Devils czar Lou Lamoriello said after Monday’s game against Pittsburgh that Gionta was hurt while blocking a shot. It was undetermined how long Gionta would be sidelined.
Gionta had played in each of the club’s 38 games before the injury and has three goals with three assists. His plus-4 rating is tied with fellow fourth- liner Steve Bernier for the team’s best.
The Devils also placed an ill Jacob Josefson on IR, retroactive to Dec. 27, and recalled forward Mike Sislo from their American Hockey League affiliate in Albany.
