Delaware Park 2015 season gets underway in May
Stanton, DE (SportsNetwork.com) – The 2015 racing season at Delaware Park will get underway in mid-Spring on the same day as the Preakness Stakes at nearby Pimlico Race Course.
The Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission gave approval Wednesday for Delaware Park’s 2015 live racing season, the 78th season of thoroughbred racing at the historic track. There will be 81 days of racing beginning Saturday, May 16 through Saturday, Oct. 17.
The highlight of the year will be the 78th Delaware Handicap on Saturday, July 18. The 1 1/4-mile handicap for fillies and mares is one of the most prestigious races for females in the country, won last year by Belle Gallantey who went on to win the Beldame Handicap at Belmont Park.
Three-year-old fillies will meet in the $300,000 Delaware Oaks on Saturday, July 11. The 2014 running was won by Fortune Pearl for trainer Graham Motion.
