Cubs activate Sweeney, send Bonifacio to DL
Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Chicago Cubs activated outfielder Ryan Sweeney from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.
Sweeney went on the DL after suffering a right hamstring strain on May 2 against St. Louis. He is batting .200 with six RBI in 20 games this season.
In a corresponding roster move, the Cubs placed utilityman Emilio Bonifacio on the 15-day DL with right rib cage inflammation.
Bonifacio left Thursday’s game against the Pirates following his first at-bat. He immediately fell to the ground after a swing, grimaced in pain, and needed help walking off the field.
The 29-year-old is hitting .266 with 10 doubles, 16 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 61 games for Chicago this season.
