Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – The Kansas City Chiefs placed Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Johnson on injured reserve among several roster moves made by the team Tuesday.

Johnson and starting defensive end Mike DeVito both ruptured their Achilles tendons in Kansas City’s 26-10 season-opening loss to Tennessee on Sunday.

DeVito, who was hurt early in the third quarter, also was put on IR.

Johnson was carted off the field late in the first half. He suffered his injury when he dropped back in coverage with under a minute left in the second quarter and fell to the field.

A 2005 first-round pick out of Texas, Johnson has spent his entire NFL career with the Chiefs. He had four tackles in Sunday’s game to bring his career total to 985, which is third-most in team history. He needs eight tackles to pass Art Still for second place and is 14 shy of Gary Spani for the team’s all-time lead.

The Chiefs also reinstated wide receiver Dwayne Bowe from the reserve/suspended list.

Bowe was suspended for the first game of the season after he was arrested for speeding and marijuana possession last November. He pled guilty in April to two lesser charges and paid $610 in fines and court costs.

Bowe had one of his worst seasons in 2013, catching 57 passes for 673 yards and five touchdowns.

Additionally, Kansas City signed veteran defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson to a one-year deal.

Vickerson, who was one of Denver’s final roster cuts, made 41 starts over four seasons with the Broncos. The nine-year pro has compiled 153 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks over 71 games with Denver, Tennessee and Miami.

In other moves, the Chiefs waived safety Daniel Sorensen and made a host of changes to their practice squad.

Linebacker Jerry Franklin was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad, while wide receiver Armon Binns, offensive tackle Curtis Feigt, tight end Adam Schiltz, cornerback Robert Steeples and defensive tackle Jerel Worthy were all signed to the practice squad.

Fullback Jordan Campbell, defensive tackle Hebron Fangupo, center Ben Gottschalk and wide receiver Darryl Surgent were waived from the practice squad.
