Cats Comes back to Toronto after 20 Years
Andrew Lloyd Weber has proven over and over again that he can not only create a spectacular theatrical show, but that he can produce shows that stand the test of time; and that audiences will always want to come back to. Now, they’ll get one more chance as Cats returns to the Toronto stage, after the curtains were closed on it 28 years ago.
This time around Cats is playing at David Mirvish’s Panasonic Theatre, instead of the Elgin Theatre that it once called home, but there will still be plenty of familiar faces on the stage. Taking on the parts of the adorable cat characters including Mr. Mistoffelees, , Mugojerrie and Rumpleteaxer, and Rum Tum Tugger to name just a few, is an entirely Canadian cast that will be taking on many different roles throughout the show.
Some of those cool cats are also returning to take on the roles they played during the original production over 20 years ago, just as Susan Cuthbert is doing. During a recent interview for the show, Cuthbert spoke of how proud she was that this time around her daughter, who wasn’t born the first time the musical was in Toronto, could come see the show. And that’s a trend that the producers are hoping will catch on with all of Toronto’s younger crowd.
“We are thrilled to bring such an iconic show back to Toronto. We’re excited to introduce Cats to a new generation of theater-goers and offer fans a chance to re-visit a favorite musical,” said Cory Ross, president of Starvox Entertainment, who’s helped get the show back to the city.
Previews have been running for the show since May 28 and its official opening is on Tuesday, June 11. Don’t miss your chance to see this iconic Broadway show come to life in Toronto once again!
