Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) – Arizona Cardinals pass rusher John Abraham has been placed on a reserve list as he deals with a concussion issue that could end his career.

Abraham left Monday’s opener against San Diego and the Cardinals have a temporary roster exemption while a decision is made on how the 36-year-old linebacker will proceed.

The 15-year veteran is the NFL’s active leader with 133 1/2 career sacks. He led the Cardinals with 11 1/2 sacks last season in his first year with the club and was selected to his fifth Pro Bowl.

Abraham spent the previous seven years with Atlanta after playing his first six seasons with the New York Jets.

The Cardinals re-signed linebacker Marcus Benard, who was among the final roster cuts last month. Benard had 17 tackles with 2 1/2 sacks and one forced fumble in 12 games for Arizona last year.

Before joining the Cardinals, Benard appeared in 25 games over three seasons for Cleveland and notched 11 1/2 sacks with 45 tackles.
