Cardinals Visit Reds for Key NL Central Series
This weekend, two of the best teams in the National League square off as the Cincinnati Reds host the St. Louis Cardinals for a three game series. They meet on Friday night and Saturday night shortly after 7:00 EST, and match up on national television Sunday night a little after 8:00 EST.
At the time of this writing, the Cardinals currently hold the best win-loss record in the majors at 37-19, while the Reds are just 2.5 games back at 35-22. Despite being tied with the Pirates for second in the Central division, the Reds have the third best record in all of baseball.
As a result, it should be an exciting series between two well-rounded ball clubs. The Cardinals lead Major League Baseball with a team earned runs average of 2.99, while the Reds sit third at 3.23. In terms of batting, the Reds have the eighth most runs in baseball with 268, while the Cardinals are ninth with 267.
The Cardinals have been a bit more of a “small ball,” offense with a .267 batting average and 43 home runs, while the Reds rely more on the long ball with a 2.54 batting average and 58 home runs.
The Reds offense is led by Joey Votto and Shin-Soo Choo. Votto is batting .336 with 10 home runs and 28 runs batted in, while Choo is hitting .283 with 10 home runs and 20 runs driven in.
