‘Canes to be without D Pitkanen for 2013-14 season

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) – The Carolina Hurricanes announced Wednesday that defenseman Joni Pitkanen will miss the entire 2013-14 season as he continues to recover from a significant heel injury.

Pitkanen, who will turn 30 on Sept. 19, missed the Hurricanes’ final 13 games last season after breaking his left calcaneus bone on April 2 against Washington.

The Finn has registered 57 goals and 225 assists in 535 games with Philadelphia, Edmonton and Carolina. He joined the Hurricanes prior to the 2008-09 campaign.
