Canadiens acquire Gonchar from Stars for Moen
Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) – The Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens made a one-for-one transaction on Tuesday, with veteran defenseman Sergei Gonchar heading to Canada and bottom-six forward Travis Moen heading to Texas.
Normally a steady offensive presence on the blue line, Gonchar posted just one assist in three appearances for the Stars, who have allowed the second-most (50) goals in the Western Conference through 14 games. He missed 11 games with a foot injury at the outset of the season.
The 40-year-old native of Russia has totaled 219 goals and 579 assists in 1,256 games since breaking into the NHL during the lockout-shortened 1995 campaign.
Moen failed to record a point in 10 appearances for the Habs this year, his sixth with the franchise. In 690 games over 11 seasons with four teams, the 32-year-old native of Saskatchewan has collected 56 goals and 125 points.
