New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – The Buffalo Sabres have been chosen as the host for the 2016 NHL Draft.

The First Niagara Center will be the site for the two-day selection process, which is scheduled for June 24-25, 2016.

“Awarding the 2016 National Hockey League Draft to Buffalo honors the passion of its fans for our sport and reflects the commitment of Terry and Kim Pegula to the Sabres and to Buffalo,” said NHL commissioner Gary Bettman in a statement Monday. “We are delighted our fans will have the opportunity to welcome the incoming class of outstanding players at First Niagara Center, which is one of the hockey world’s top event destinations.”

Buffalo will serve as the draft host for the third time. The Aud was the site for the 1991 draft when Eric Lindros went first overall, and the First Niagara Center held the honors in 1998 when Vincent Lecavalier was the top pick.

The Florida Panthers will host the 2015 draft.
