Berea, OH (SportsNetwork.com) – Cleveland Browns rookie Connor Shaw will get the start at quarterback on Sunday against Baltimore, his coach said Friday.

The undrafted rookie out of South Carolina will take his first NFL snaps against a Ravens team chasing a playoff berth.

He’s the third quarterback to start a game this season for Cleveland, joining Brian Hoyer and fellow rookie Johnny Manziel, who are both injured.

“It’s a challenge, but at the same time we look forward to it,” Browns coach Mike Pettine said. “If we go out and perform at all the other positions well, that’s going to minimized the impact.”

Shaw, a three-year starter at South Carolina, got the nod over veteran Tyler Thigpen, who was signed this week.

The Browns placed Manziel on injured reserve Wednesday with a hamstring injury the former Heisman Trophy winner suffered last week against Carolina. Hoyer also was hurt during the game and is unlikely to be ready for Sunday.

The Ravens can clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Browns plus a loss or tie by San Diego against Kansas City. They also make the playoffs with a tie and a Chargers loss.
