Bobby’s Kitten rolls to victory in Penn Mile
Grantville, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – Post time favorite Bobby’s Kitten cruised to victory Saturday in the second edition of the $500,000 Penn Mile for 3- year-olds at Penn National Race Course.
Trained by Chad Brown and ridden by Javier Castellano, Bobby’s Kitten was sent off as the 13-10 favorite in the eight-horse field for the turf race. The colt stalked the pace being set by 124-1 longshot Sing the Dream.
Around the last turn, Bobby’s Kitten surged through the inside to take the lead and opened up at the top of the stretch. The favorite drove through the stretch and registered a 2 3/4-length win over 9-5 second choice Global View.
Finishing third was Storming Inti followed by Divine Oath, Laddie Boy, Coastline, Mr Brioni and Sing the Dream.
The time for the Penn Mile was 1:35.82 on a good turf course.
Bobby’s Kitten, owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, picked up $281,000 with the win. The colt has won four of seven career starts for $589,766.
He was the favorite in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita when he finished third. This year he won an allowance race at Tampa Bay Downs and was 12th in the Blue Grass Stakes on Keeneland’s synthetic main track.
In 2013, Bobby’s Kitten won the Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park after breaking his maiden at Saratoga in his second lifetime start.
Bobby’s Kitten paid $4.60, $2.60 and $2.20. Global View returned $2.60 and $2.20, and Storming Inti paid $3.00 to show.
