Blue Jays close in on deal with Navarro
(SportsNetwork.com) – The Toronto Blue Jays have apparently come to terms with catcher Dioner Navarro.
Fox Sports is reporting that it is a two-year deal worth $8 million.
Navarro, a 2008 American League All-Star with Tampa Bay, appeared in 89 games for the Chicago Cubs last season and hit .300 with 34 RBI and a career-best 13 home runs.
The 29-year-old switch-hitter has also played for the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds, but had his most productive years with the Rays from 2006-10. He helped Tampa Bay to the AL pennant in 2008, leading the club with a .295 batting average in 120 games.
Navarro is a career .251 hitter in 715 big league games with 54 homers and 243 runs batted in.
