Bill Maher – He’s Politically Incorrect and a Hot Ticket in Person

You know Bill Maher didn’t have an easy time in his early life, being raised Catholic, and by a highly opinionated father who was also a network news editor.  The fact that Bill Maher is also a progressive, an atheist, and a board member of PETA, certainly make him a hard guy to like–or so you’d think.  It just so happens Bill Maher is one of the funniest guys in America, and that’s what makes his hard political beliefs so easy to swallow.

Bill Maher started as a standup comic but quickly earned a reputation of a political humorist, thanks mainly to two groundbreaking shows: Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, that aired on Comedy Central and later the ABC network.  Despite good ratings and big name guests, the show was canceled by ABC in 2002, and mainly because of political controversy; namely, an episode in which Bill Maher criticized the U.S. government following the attacks of September 11th, 2001.

Bill Maher has recovered and is actually much less reviled than Bush ten years later.  Now the outspoken talk show host has HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, though he still finds the time to go city to city and tour his newest material.  When you see Bill Maher in person, expect a political bent.  His favorite subjects of ridicule include religion, greed in politics, and the mass media.  His commitment to humor, even while tackling difficult subject matter, earned him a #38 spot on Comedy Central’s “100 greatest stand-ups of all time.”  Last year, he even got a “Hollywood Walk of Fame star.”

Bill Maher’s style of delivery is unique, as he combines the fearless of Lenny Bruce or George Carlin with the smooth delivery of Johnny Carson or even Steve Allen.  Come see Bill Maher in person and learn that it’s okay to laugh at such hot potatoes as politics and religion.  As Maher himself says, the truth is not only funny but also needed in today’s morally complex world.  “Who’s your real friend?  It’s the person who tells you the truth.  That’s who my real friends are.  We need more people who will do that.”
