Big South Conference Tournament Recaps
Conway, SC (SportsNetwork.com) – Shaquille Johnson scored 25 points while grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds Wednesday as Longwood beat Presbyterian 65-61 in the opening round of the Big South Conference Tournament.
Leron Fisher had 16 points and Quincy Taylor added 13 for the ninth-seeded Lancers (10-22), who will lead off Friday’s quarterfinal action against top- seeded Charleston Southern.
Markus Terry hit five 3-pointers and paced the eighth-seeded Blue Hose (10-22) with 21 points. DeSean Murray posted 18 points and tied a personal best with 13 rebounds in defeat.
Final Score: Gardner-Webb 72, Campbell 64
Conway, SC (SportsNetwork.com) – Jerome Hill had 17 points and 14 rebounds to help Gardner-Webb beat Campbell 72-64 in the opening round of the Big South Conference Tournament.
Tyrell Nelson posted 15 points and nine rebounds for the seventh-seeded Bulldogs (19-13), who will face No. 2 seed High Point in the quarterfinals on Friday. Harold McBride also scored 15 and Adonis Burbage added 10.
Curtis Phillips led the 10th-seeded Fighting Camels (10-22) with 20 points, while Reco McCarter and Troy Harper scored 13 points apiece.
Final Score: UNC Asheville 80, Liberty 70
Conway, SC (SportsNetwork.com) – Andrew Rowsey scored a game-high 34 points as the UNC Asheville Bulldogs defeated the Liberty Flames, 80-70, in the first round of the Big South Conference Tournament.
Rowsey connected on 7-of-10 shots behind the 3-point line and 9-of-10 at the charity stripe on the evening. Also scoring in double figures for the sixth- seeded Bulldogs (15-15) were David Robertson and Sam Hughes with 14 and 12 points, respectively, as the team survived 17 turnovers.
The 11th-seeded Flames (8-24) were paced by David Andoh who registered a double-double with 21 points and a game-high 10 rebounds before fouling out. Andrew Smith came within a rebound of his own double-double as he tallied 16 points, followed by Ryan Kemrite with 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting beyond the arc off the bench. Theo Johnson added 11 points before he too picked up his fifth personal for a squad that suffered 18 miscues.
UNC Asheville now moves on to challenge third-seeded Coastal Carolina in the quarterfinals on Friday night.
