Bears DT Melton arrested
(SportsNetwork.com) – Chicago Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton was arrested following an alleged altercation with a bartender in Texas on Saturday night, according to a report.
Melton was arrested on charges of assault and public intoxication, ESPN.com reported, citing police in Grapevine, Texas.
“We are aware of the reports regarding Henry Melton,” the Bears said in a statement. “We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.”
Melton, 27, was placed on injured reserve Sept. 27 with a torn knee ligament. He signed an $8.45 million franchise tender in March.
Melton’s agent told ESPN.com the player said he “didn’t throw a punch at anybody and that he got jumped by a couple of bouncers on the way out.”
A Grapevine police sergeant told the website Melton was “belligerent with some of the staff members” at Chill Sports Bar & Grill.
The site said Melton posted bond Sunday morning and was released.
Melton has 89 tackles and 15 1/2 sacks in four seasons for the Bears. He started Chicago’s first three games this season.
