Baffert unlikely to start Fed Biz in Pacific Classic
Del Mar, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Trainer Bob Baffert indicated Sunday that San Diego Handicap winner Fed Biz is unlikely to start in the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Aug. 24.
Fed Biz made his 2014 debut Saturday in the 1 1/16-mile San Diego and set a track record for the distance in doing so. The 5-year-old won by 5 1/4 lengths in track record time of 1:41, bettering Zenyatta’s 1:41.48 in the 2008 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes.
Baffert, who also trains 2013 Pacific Classic winner Game On Dude, is looking elsewhere for Fed Biz.
“We’re looking to get a Grade I (win) for him,” Baffert said
When reminded that the Pacific Classic is a Grade I stakes, Baffert said: “I know, but there are lots of Grade Is, all over the country.”
Game On Dude, who was also second in 2012, worked four furlongs in 48 seconds Thursday at Del Mar.
Other probable starters for the 1 1/4-mile Pacific Classic are Gold Cup winner Majestic Harbor, Clubhouse Ride, 3-year-old Shared Belief, Candy Boy, Zivo, San Diego runner-up Footbridge, You Know I Know and Frac Daddy.
