Astros’ Castro done for season
Houston, TX (Sports Network) – The Houston Astros placed catcher Jason Castro on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, officially ending his breakout 2013 season.
Castro, the Astros’ lone representative at this year’s All-Star Game, has played in just two games — serving as the designated hitter in both — since Sept. 2 due to a cyst in his right knee. The former first-round pick had previously missed the entire 2011 campaign after tearing the ACL in the same knee.
The 26-year-old established career highs of 18 home runs, 56 RBI and a .276 batting average while participating in 120 games this season. He was also a two-time recipient of the American League’s Player of the Week award this season.
